BAR AWARDED TO D.F.M.
SERGEANT-PILOT HESSELYN
A fortnight after the announcement of the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal to Sergeant-Pilot R. B. Hesselyn, formerly of Invercargill, news has been received that he has been awarded a bar to the medal. Details of the exploit which won him recognition so promptly after the first award have not been made known.
Sergeant-Pilot Heselyn, who is a son of Mr and Mrs G. A, Hesselyn, of Spreydon, Christchurch, was employed by G. Poole and Sons, Ltd., Invercargill, before his enlistment and he is well known in the city. He has been credited with shooting down six enemy machines.
