RETIREMENT FROM MEAT BOARD

APPRECIATION OF WORK OF MR A. S. HOLMS

The recent retirement of Mr A. S. Holms, of Waimahaka, from the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, was referred to by Mr J. A. Edwards, chairman of the Southern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, at the annual meeting of the council at Gore yesterday. Mr Edwards said that Mr Holms had been closely associated with the council since its inception. For many years he was a vice-president of the Dominion Council of the Royal Society, and quite apart from this he was one of the best known stud stock breeders in Southland. “I should like to pay a tribute to the part Mr Holms has played in raising the standard of stud stock in this province, and to the part he has played in the counsels of the many agricultural organizations with which he has been associated for so many years,” Mr Edwards said. Mr Edwards also paid a tribute to the work Mr Holms had done as a member of the Meat Board.

It was regretted that ill-health would be the cause of Mr Holms’s retirement, and he was taking the opportunity to place on record the council’s appreciation of the consistent and able manner in which he had represented not only the council, not only Otago and Southland, but the whole Dominion, Mr Edwards stated.
