CITY MAYORALTY

ELECTION ON JUNE 22 If it is necessary to have an election to find a successor to Mr J. R. Martin as Mayor of Invercargill, the election will be held on Monday, June 22. Nominations for the mayoralty will close at 5 p.m. on June 8. Any person of the age of 21 years and over who has been in New Zealand for the past 12 months, who has lived in Invercargill for the past three months, and who is a British subject, is entitled to vote. If a member of the present council stands for the mayoralty and is defeated in the election, he still retains his seat on the council. If, however, a member of the present council is elected mayor an extraordinary vacancy will be created on the council. Nominations will then be called for the seat and an election held, if necessary.
