Sporting DUNEDIN WINTER MEETING

ALTERED NOMINATION DATE

The altering of the date of the Dunedin winter meeting has caused an adjustment of the nomination and acceptance dates. Nominations will now close on June 1, handicaps will be declared on June 8 and acceptances close on June 12. The meeting will be held on June 20. Colibri

Colibri, who pulled off the Hamilton Hurdles on Saturday, had not been successful since she won the hack hurdles on the second day of the last Grand National meeting. Outsiders

Outsiders nearly monopolized the win dividends again at Te Rapa on Saturday, 11th, 15th, 12th, 19th and 17th favourites being successful. Quite Sure Trotter Melbourne will soon see one of Quite Sure’s progeny in action. This is a three-year-old trotter out of Homeward Lass, who is being trained by G. Gath. Regal Fox It was supposed that deep going was Regal Fox’s long suit, but he could not reach a place in the Mcßae Cup at Hawera, and he was not started at Te Rapa. His win in the Great Northern Derby appears to have been a lucky one. Erination

Erination is in the Great Northern Steeplechase 101 b higher than he was weighted at Te Rapa. Dark Rose received .a similar concession, dropping from 9.10 at Te Rapa to 9.0 at Ellerslie. Dark Rose won the Waikato Steeplechase a year ago, but after the June fixture at Ellerslie he was off the scenp for just on a year.

Huge Field No fewer than 73 horses have been accepted for in the Jervois Hack Handicap, to be run on the opening day of the Auckland winter meeting. The safety number that can be started from the seven furlong 'barrier on the Ellerslie course is 27, and, if all those accepted for are starters, the race will have to be run in three divisions. The number of acceptances received constitutes a record for the Dominion. Parchment

The imported horse, Parchment, who has been spelling in the North Island since he raced at the Wellington Cup meeting last January, recently returned to C. C. McCarthy’s stable at Riccarton, and is reported to be looking well.

Hunt Cup Prospect Summons is to have his first race for the winter in the steeplechase at the Napier Park meeting. No doubt he will be the stable fancy for the Russell Memorial Challenge Cup, the main steeplechase event at the Hawkes Bay Hunt Club's meeting at Hastings. He won the race last year. First For New Owner

Whackie was not produced in the main sprint at the Avondale meeting because a suitable lightweight rider could not be obtained for him. Probably the biggest three-year-old in traiinng this season, Whackie does best on a big course, and a long straight such as that at Te Rapa suits his solid finishing run. His stable also has Noble Fox engaged in this race, and it is understood that this horse will be ridden by Broughton.
