The engagement is announced of Raymond Edwin, only son of Mr and Mrs E. A. Watson, of Enfield, North Otago, to Patricia Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs M. P. Horan, of Riverton. Mrs J. Newlands, Dunedin, is visiting Mrs Lester Moller, Duke street. Miss Isobel le Petit, Earn street, will return today from a holiday spent at The Rocks. Misses A. and M. Drumm, Dunedin, who have been visiting Miss D. Ross, Eye street, have returned to Dunedin. Miss A. McLay, Harewood, left for Christchurch by last night’s express after spending her leave in Invercargill. Mrs C. R. Story, Venlaw, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs E. R. Wilson, Russell street, will return home today. Miss Mavis Brown, Gala street, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. J. Brown, Nightcaps. She had as her guest Miss Marjorie Bell, Elies road. Miss L. Purvis, who is at present sole teacher at the Merino Downs school, has been appointed to the position of assistant mistress at the Gore Public School. Major Brown, of the Salvation Army, will be the speaker at the Southland Travel Club this afternoon. Members are reminded that reservations must be made by ringing 2308 or 1282. Southland members of the W.A.A.F., Blenheim, who have been promoted to the rank of W.A.I from February 15 are Misses Joyce Palmer (Bluff), June Snedden (Nightcaps), Beatrice Cook and Evelyn Matthews (Invercargill). RED CROSS NOTES The annual meeting of delegates of the Invercargill Sub-Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society will be held on Thursday, March 12, not March 5 as usual, in St. John’s Sunday school hall. The meeting will be advertised later. Annual reports were received last week from Winton, Otara, Wyndham, Waimatuku, Wallacetown Sub-Centres, South Invercargill Committee and East Invercargill Committee.

One of the committee, Mrs Todd, resigned, and Mrs Griffiths was elected to fill the vacancy. The committee thanks Mrs F. G. Hall-Jones for her interesting address. The following are thanked for donations: Miss Williams 11/-, C. R. Patton £l/5/-, and Mrs A. Wilson 10/-. Waikiwi: The annual meeting was held on Thursday, February 19. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs Williams; secretary, Mrs Bingham; committee, Mesdames A. Fraser, R. Acton, P. A. Price, J. Moore, C. Ogilvy, Misses N. Nilson and E. Latta.

Voluntary Aid Training Classes: Second year Home Nursing Class in the V.A. room this evening at 7.15. First Year Home Nursing on Tuesday in the V.A. room at 7.15 p.m. on Wednesday. Voluntary Aids form First Aid Class who have not already gained a home nursing certificate are asked to attend in the V.A. room at 7 p.m. for home nursing lecture. Hygiene and Sanitation: Voluntary Aids who gained their home nursing certificate in 1941 are requested to attend in the V.A. room on Thursday evening at 7 o’clock. Any girl desirous of starting home nursing or sanitation and hygiene classes should communicate with Mrs E. J. Mills. (Telephone 1407). A meeting of the members who have recently formed themselves as a Voluntary Aid Serving Guild, will be held tomorrow in the Voluntary Aid room, Don street, at 3 p.m.
