AUSTRALIAN RACING NEWMARKET HANDICAP TO KELSO (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 1. The weather was fine and there was a good attendance at the Victoria Racing Club's autumn meeting at Flemington. The cross-country jockey L. Meenan maintained his remarkable record, winning the hurdle race on Giant Killer. He claims 17‘,4 wins from 37 mounts in jumping races this season. He has had 11 1 ,4 wins at Flemington, probably an all-time record for a jockey in one season. Kelos, whose barrier manners have been unruly, was ordered outside the barrier in the Newmarket Handicap. He began smartly and was over on the rails inside a furlong and led always to beat the fast-finish-ing Fur Trader. Beaulivre, who made a brilliant finishing effort, was third.
