COLLECTION OF ERGOT

Sir,—This is Sunday morning. A short while ago a very large number of cyclists left town for another “mystery hike.” I suppose the majority of them spent hours of enjoyment yesterday too. All around our city are vast quantities of ripe ergot, easy to pick and store. The weather is ideal, warm and windless.

Britain has appealed for our ergot which is so much needed to save precious lives. Could an outing not be organized and the young folk interested in the gathering of this most valuable medicine? If transport could be arranged I am confident that a dozen or more women would give a day a week in this cause —not for money making, but just to be doing something Britain asks us to do urgently. Is anyone else interested? MARY DUSTON. February 22, 1942.
