The number of stock carried on Southland railways since January 3 has increased considerably. Following are the returns for sheep and lambs for each week since January 3 (the increase on the previous year’s figures is given in parentheses for comparison): —January 3, 8998 (6135); January 10, 32,295 (9274); January 17, 56,562 (23,190); January 24, 74,166 (36,559); January 31, 84,401 (46,724). February 7, 71,874 (25,668); February 14, 82,129 (48,586); February 21, 69,540 (40,383).
