BLUFF NEWS

DEALING WITH FIRE BOMBS There was a fail- attendance at the cricket ground to watch the Fire Brigade giving a demonstration of how to deal with incendiary bombs. The superintendent, Mr W. Fanning, explained how to deal with this particular type of bomb. The incendiary bomb itself is like a large firework, but if handled in the proper way it is really harmless. Unless the bomb falls into inflammable material, the end of the burning bomb may be picked up with the hand at least a jrunmte after it falls, and extinguished by dumping it in a bucket of water. The molten metal can then be extinguished either by the application of water with or without sand. When the bomb is dropped into the water it causes violent spluttering, but can do no damage. - The superintendent advised all householders to keep baths or tubs filled with water for use in an emergency. Mr P. Ayson, of Waikaia, has begun his duties at the Bluff Post Office. '•Miss H. Shaw has been appointed librarian by the Bluff Borough Council.
