TRENCHES FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
At the meeting of the Southland Education Board yesterday the question of digging trenches at schools for the protection of children was discussed. The board was agreed on the necessity of providing protection for the children and was eager to see trenches provided at the earliest possible date, for the large city schools especially. Commendation was expressed of the efforts of many school committees in digging their own trenches. The Middle School, it was stated, had almost completed its trench system, dug largely by the senior boys. The secretary and architect were instructed by the board to try to obtain men under No. 13 scheme for the digging of trenches in schools al an early date.
