NOT PRACTICAL AT PRESENT

INTERMEDIATE SECTION AT GORE HIGH SCHOOL

At the meeting of the Southland Education Board yesterday a letter was received from the Education Department forwarding a report from the rector of the Gore High. School (Mr E. H. W. Rowntree) on the question of establishing an intermediate department at the Gore High School. The department stated that it had advised the rector that in view of the present international situation it was most unlikely that the proposal could be proceeded with at present. It was stated that it had been proposed that children from Lumsden, Riversdale, Waikaia and surrounding districts attend the intermediate department.

The board received the letter and recommended to the department that careful consideration be given to the

question of which districts were to contribute pupils. It was thought that attendance from districts such as Lumsden would raise practical problems. The board was in favour of the establishment of the intermediate department when circumstances permitted. Apart from its educational advantages the department would ease overcrowding, which would have to be dealt with in the Gore schools in the near future.
