PRIVATE CARS ON ROAD
DECREASE SHOWN DURING MONTH “Although private cars have shown a decrease on the roads during the last month, this has been balanced by the opening of the freezing works,” said Traffic Inspector J. Arthur, in a report to the Southland County Council yesterday. Lamb carrying had been very steady and a check was being kept on them for loading and speeding, said the report. There seemed to' be a lot of unnecessary long-distance carting being done, but this would be reported to the right quarter. During the month checks were made on heavy traffic and a number of traffic offence notices were issued for failing to renew heavy traffic licences. The wandering stock question was not being overlooked and the first prosecutions were at Invercargill on January 21. Three intoxicated motorists were convicted and 14 drivers had been tested during the month.
