EXTREME COLD IN EUROPE
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, January 22. The paralysing weather that is gripping Russia is spreading over Europe. Towns between Moscow and Kuibyshev experienced temperatures of —3B to —47 degrees (Fahrenheit). The cold has caused the closing of all schools in Sofia until February. The temperature there was 24 degrees (Fahrenheit) below zero. A cold spell has gripped France in the last 48 hours. Temperatures of —l5 degrees (Fahrenheit) were recorded at Vichy. The temperature in Dover throughout the day remained below freezing point, falling further after dusk. Sea water froze in pools in the sand as the tide ebbed.
