YOUNG WOMAN DROWNED

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 20. Apparently developing cramp while swimming in the Waikato river, Miss Patricia Veronica Jew, aged 22, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. H. Jew, of Hamilton, disappeared and was drowned. Miss Jew, with several friends, was bathing. Shortly after 4 o’clock, when in the water alone, she called for help and then sank. Friends at once swam to the spot, but could not locate her. The police dragged until nightfall without result.
