ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS NOT FAVOURED
(Special) DUNEDIN, January 20.
Because of the serious war situation the Otago Centre of the Amateur Athletic Association decided tonight not to support the holding of the New Zealand junior and women’s championships this season. The hope was expressed, however, that it would be possible toi hold the Otago provincial senior, junior and women’s championships early in March, The New Zealand Association in a letter had stated that it was strongly of the opinion that the national junior and women’s championships should be held if at all practicable. Before any decision was made, however, the New Zealand committee was anxious to ascertain the effect of mobilization on the junior ranks of the various centres.
