AMERICANS BEHIND BRITAIN

BIG PROJECTS TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 25. “One of the impressions I received was that America is under no illusion about what will happen if Nazism is not defeated. The people of the United States are definitely behind us in this war and there is everv evidence of the gigantic steps that are being taken to assist us and of the immense projects in this direction which have yet to bear fruit,” said Mr H. E. Moston, one of the Government representatives to the International Labour Office conference in New York. One of the conference’s most important resolutions concerned the necessity for the 1.L.0. to take a hand in post-war reconstruction problems. The outstanding speaker was the Belgian Foreign Minister, M. Paul Spaak, who dwelt on the difficulties that would confront Europe at the conclusion of the war.

Mr Moston said he had taken the opportunity of investigating labour disputes in the United States. It was disturbing to see pickets outside the works. In many cases, however, they were professional pickets and did not seem to know what it was all about. The position was complicated by tire fact that there were two rival labour organizations fighting for power.
