THIRTY APPEALS ARE HEARD

MANPOWER COMMITTEE CONCLUDES SITTING

About 30 appeals against territorial service were heard by the Southland Man-Power Committee at the last sitting of the present session in Invercargill yesterday. The committee consisted of Messrs E. H. Murney (chairman), D. H. Cockburn and D. W. Stalker with Mr J. W. Hinchey as secretary. Most of the appeals were of a routine nature and were lodged by farmers on behalf-of employees or by cheese factory managers for assistants. As on the previous day, most of the employers, after discussion with the committee, nominated periods most suitable for reservists to proceed to camp. Some of the appeals were allowed and others were dismissed.

The next sitting of the committee will be early in December. The committee will then consider appeals for exemption from the two months’ training, arranged for January and February for territorials.
