PATRIOTIC NOTES

COMMITTEES’ REPORTS Mrs J. R. Martin, chairman, presided over a full attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Invercargill Women’s Metropolitan Patriotic Committee on Thursday. Mrs R. Miller reported on the success of the stalls held at the national fitness rally on Saturday, November 8, when, although the weather was unsettled, £5/11/- was raised. Mrs Brown advised that all the December quota of parcels was ready for despatch and would be forwarded on receipt of advice from Wellington. Where possible a personal message had been included in each parcel. There is still a need for tins for packing biscuits. These tins must be clean and unbattered. For the rest of the year the depot would be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays only. Mrs Simmonds, secretary of the Lady Galway Guild, reported that the jumble sale held in October raised £45. It was decided to hold another sale on November 28 in St. Paul’s Sunday School room. It was decided to staff the display of film stars’ clothes which will be held in H. and J. Smith’s lounge from November 21. Entrance fees of 6d and 3d will be charged. The proceeds are for the patriotic fund.
