SPECIAL MEETING OF FIRE BOARD
DISCUSSION TAKEN IN COMMITTEE
A special meeting of the Invercargill Fire Board was held in committee last night. The board did not disclose the subject under discussion. “I felt that I must call you together immediately on a matter which comes as a big surprise,” said the chairman (Mr W. G. Tait) at the opening of the meeting. “I would thank some member to move that the board go into committee at once.” Mr R. R. Binney moved that the board go into committee and Mr A. Sharp seconded the motion. Mr D. Harris said that on principle he was opposed to business in committee. The chairman: I know you are against committee business, but there are occasions when the board should go into committee. This is one of those occasions. The motion was carried, only Mr Harris voting against it. The meeting ended after an hour and a-half, members stating that the deliberations had been highly satisfactory.
