UNDUE DEPLETION OF WHITEBAIT
INCREASING USE OF SET NETS IN RIVERS
Claims that set whitebait nets were being used in increasing numbers and were causing undue depletion of whitebait stocks in the rivers were made at the meeting last night of the Southland Acclimatization Society. Mr A. Fraser said that the position was serious and the authorities should take the matter up. It was decided to write to the Marine Department describing what was happening and drawing its attention to the failure of the authorities to enforce the whitebait regulations.
