AUCKLAND FIRE TO BE INVESTIGATED

Hunt, S.M., has been appointed a commission of inquiry to investigate the fire that recently destroyed the premises of John Burns and Co., Ltd., Auckland, including the cause and origin, the effectiveness of the action by the Fire Brigade and the efficiency and adequacy of the plant, and also its organization and training; the adequacy of the water supply in the Auckland metropolitan area and electrical equipment and installations in buildings; the adequacy of the building by-laws; the fire-proofing of lift wells and other vertical openings; also the training of staffs in fire protection and other matters which the commission should feel to be relevant.
