SOLDIERS’ COMFORTS FROM AMERICA

GENEROUS CONTRIBUTION i The secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Mr G. A. Hayden, has received a further generous donation of £3OO from the Anzac War Relief Fund of New York for the provision of Christmas hampers for members of the N.Z.E.F. on active service. This particular gift is made up of contributions from the New York, Chicago and Pacific Coast Divisions of the Anzac War Relief Fund. The local representative of the fund, Mr H. P. Griffin, stated that as a result of this donation some 600 parcels were being despatched to the Middle East and that these would contain handkerchiefs, safety razor blades, writing paper and envelopes, shaving soap, dentifrice, condensed milk, canned pears, oysters, aspirin and chewing gum. The citizens of the United States, who have contributed to the funds, have already given generous help to the N.Z.E.F. in providing 25 ambulances, one mobile dental unit and costly medical equipment, 2,250,000 cigarettes, 11 cases of books and magazines, mobile canteens and £l5OO to furnish the N.Z.E.F. Club in Cairo. They are now procuring radio headphones for use in military hospitals and a wide range of sporting goods which at present are unobtainable in New Zealand. These gifts are all the more appreciated when it is realized that the people of the United States have to provide comforts for their own fighting forces—all of which are giving increasing calls for contributions.
