TERRITORIAL CAMP TRAINING

APPEALS FOR EXEMPTION To date 25 applications have been received by the Southland Man-Power Committee for exemption for men required to attend territorial camp in January and February. A special meeting of the committee will be held early in December to deal with these appeals. All appeals must be in by then, or they will not be considered. All men who have completed or are now doing their three months’ intensive training will be required to attend camp in January and February. It should be noted, too, that men who have attained the age of 20 since completing their intensive training are also included. There may be some misunderstanding on this point because the regulations for the calling up of men in the General Reserve provided that men who had attained their 20th, but not their 21st birthday, were not liable for territorial training. However, once a man is drafted to a territorial regiment he remains on the strength of that regiment until he is transferred to the Expeditionary Force. A man is not regarded as having been transferred to the Expeditionary Force until he is called up in an overseas ballot and until any appeal lodged by or on behalf of a man is dealt with.
