LOWER INTEREST IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 11.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 22. The Commonwealth Bank and the trading banks announce that as from today interest rates on fixed deposits for periods of six months or longer will be reduced by one-quarter of one per cent. This is the third scaling down of interest rates since the war began.
