Captain J. H. Hall, formerly public relations officer with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, is now a prisoner of war in a German camp, according to a letter received from him by his parents, Mr and Mrs Andrew Hall, of Edendale. The letter was written on June 26 and Captain Hall stated that his health and the general conditions under which he was living were good.
Chaplain Captain R. J. Griffiths, who was reported missing after the Greek campaign, is now a prisoner of war and is reported to be attached to a hospital in Greece. This information has been received by his wife, who is in Invercargill. Chaplain Captain Griffiths was at Waimate before joining the Army, but he previously lived in Invercargill and was well known in the city. Mr F. O. V. Acheson, Judge of the Native Land Court, Auckland, has announced that he will contest the Rotorua seat at the forthcoming election as an Independent National candidate. —(P.A.). Mr C. S. Mackay, of Wellington and formerly of Invercargill, who has been visiting the city left by yesterday afternoon’s express for Dunedin. He will continue his journey to Wellington today. Mr Frederick John Lock has been chosen as the National Party candidate for the Nelson electorate. Mr Lock is a tailor by trade and is in business in Nelson. The other nominee was Mr F. E. Nottage, of Tasman. Office-bearers of the Invercargill Rotary Club for the year were elected at the meeting of the club yesterday as follows: President, Mr S. R. Lowden; vice-president, the Rev. J. A. Thomson; additional directors, Messrs B. W. Hewat and J. S. Robbie; sergeant-at-arms, Mr F. Lange.
