AXEMEN’S ATHLETIC SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING AT TUATAPERE There was an attendance of 16 members at the annual meeting of the Tuatapere Axemen’s Athletic Society, Mr R. Lawson (president) occupying the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr Lawson said that the society experienced a better year than was expected. Including the £5O donation to the telephone appeal on Anzac Day, the expenditure for the season was only £l5 greater than the receipts, which was a very satisfactory result. , . j The following officials were elected: President, Mr R. Lawson; vice-presi-dents, Messrs C. Payne, H. M. McDonald, T. Gaudion, J. King, D. O Leary, G. McLeod, M. Dowling and J. K. Heenan; secretaries, Messrs I. B. Gordon and G. A. Spears; handicappers, bushcraft, Mr M. Dowling; athletics and cycling, Mr C. Payne; shooting, Mr W. J. Henderson; judges, bushcraft, Messrs A. C. Cocker, F. Edgerton, S. Hodges, D. Ogilvie and M. Dowling; athletics, Messrs J. Mclntyre, jun., A. D. McClymont, J. J. Lawson and H. Jenkins; cycling, Messrs D. O’Leary, H. Jenkins and J. Mangan; timekeepers, athletics, Mr G. Nicholls; cycling, Messrs S. J. Sanford and J. Mangan; starters, bushcraft, Mr M. Dowling: assistant, Mr A. E. Cocker; athletics, Mr C. Payne; assistant, Mr H. B. Acker; cycling, Mr J. O. Harper; assistants, Messrs D. O’Leary, H. Jenkins and J. Mangan; announcer, Mr H. McDonald; hon. surgeon, Dr E. M. Elder; protest committee, Messrs R. Lawson, G. McLeod, M. Dowling, D. O’Leary and G. A. Spears; auditor, Mr B. J. Paterson. A programme committee consisting of Messrs H. McDonald, D. O’Leary, A. D. McClymont, M. Dowling, W. J. Henderson and the secretaries was appointed to submit a tentative programme to the next general meeting. A recommendation was made to the committee that the prize-money should be approximately £2OO. Messrs D. O’Leary, H. M. McDonald and G. A. Spears were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Southland Centre. It was decided to send forward a remit that any society finding itself unable to function during the war should have its date safeguarded for the duration and a reasonable time afterwards. Mr A. Rillstone, controller of the local Emergency Precautions Scheme, stated that it was proposed to equip an emergency hospital in Tuatapere and he sought the society’s help in paying the rental.
