WOMAN BURNED TO DEATH
Fire In House At St. Clair (P.A.) DUNEDIN, July 25. The tragic death of Mrs M. Walker, ag&d 82, was the outcome of a tire in a wooden house at St. Clair last eve . l }“ ing. Mrs Walker occupied a house witn her sister, Mrs E. Mclntyre, aged 69, and at midnight the latter was aroused by a cat. On investigating she found the back of the. house on fire. A passer-by assisted Mrs Mclntyre to a neighbour’s place, but was too late to save the sister. The latter, who was very frail, had been warned by Mrs Mclntyre, but was apparently overcome by smoke and heat, her body being found by firemen on the bed. Mrs Mclntyre was sent to hospital suffering from shock and slight burns.
