SUPERPHOSPHATE ALLOTMENTS

Increase Granted Increased allotments for superphosphate for use with swedes, turnips, and chou moellier crops and also for reverted superphosphate on the basis of phosphatic content have been granted by the Government. An announcement to this effect was made by Mr E. A. Cameron, president of the Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, after his return on Saturday from Wellington where he attended the Dominion conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.

Mr Cameron, who is also chairman of the Southland Primary Production Council, said the increases had been granted as a result of representations made by Southland and Otago delegates to the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. J. G. Barclay) and officers of the Department of Agriculture. The increased allotments would be the subject of an announcement which would be made shortly by Mr Barclay. Available information disclosed that an extra £cwt of superphosphate would probably be granted for use with the crops mentioned. In the case of reverted super, the increase would probably amount to 15 per cent., added Mr Cameron.
