HOSPITAL BOARD LOAN
NO OBJECTION FROM COUNTY COUNCIL
The Southland County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday decided to offer no objection to a proposal of the Southland Hospital Board to raise a loan of £28,000 for renovations and alterations at Dee Street Hospital, and for additions to and equipment and furnishings for Gore Hospital. The secretary of the Hospital Board wrote stating that the Dominion loan liability for hospital purposes _ was £l/2/6 a head, while the liability in the Southland Hospital Board’s district was only 2/6 a head. If the proposed loan were raised the liability in Southland would still be under 10/- a head.
In reply to questions Cr T. Golden, who is chairman of the Hospital Board, said it was proposed to spend £lB,OOO at Dee Street and £lO,OOO at Gore. To build extensions at Kew to compensate for Dee Street if that hospital were abandoned would cost £lBO,OOO. The main expenditure at Dee Street had been approved by the Health Department.
The following tenders were accepted: Stopbank at Fiery Creek bridge, W. R. Dawson (£134/10/-); reinforced concrete culvert on Kennington-Waikawa highway near Waimahaka, H. McCall (£272/15/3).
