AMATEUR CYCLING
INVERCARGILL CLUB “The club began the season with a membership of 61 and concluded with a total of 60, active and honorary,” said the annual report of the Invercargill Amateur Cycling Club which was presented at the annual meeting of the club last night. The report stated that tbe club controlled 15 track meetings during the season, most of which were in conjunction with the Athletic Association, while events staged by societies at their annual sports meetings enabled riders to .compete regularly over the summer months. Fifteen road races were staged. Excellent talent was revealed and the local riders more than held their own in competition with northern riders.
The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £7/10/1.
“It is our duty to carry the club on as our soldier members overseas will expect us to do and we should do our utmost to do this,” said the president, Mr D. Harris. He considered that in view of the unsettled times the club was in a very good position. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P.; president, Mr D. The following donations were made: Red Cross Society £3/3/-, St. John Ambulance for services given during the year, £2/2/-.
