SOLDIERS REPORTED MISSING

WRONG INFORMATION IN SOME CASES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 26. “We have had a few cases of this kind reported,” said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, today when his attention was drawn to the fact that official advices that members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force were missing arrived almost simultaneously with private cables from the men that they were safe. “We are sending a list of these cases back to the Middle East reporting the discrepancy and asking for a recheck,” said the Minister. “Where these discrepancies have occurred and the next of kin report them to the director of Base Records, we are only too pleased to have the information rechecked.” Mr Jones suggested that the regimental number and unit of the individual concerned should be supplied.
