DECLINE SHOWN IN ENTRIES

CROP COMPETITIONS A marked decline in tire number of entries for the crop competitions conducted by the Southland A. and P. Association is shown this year. The competitions, which are for swede, turnip and chou moellier crops, were inaugurated in March 1927 when Sutton and Sons, England, presented two cups valued at 25 guineas each to the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. One cup was' to be given for the best swede crop and one was for the best yellow-fleshed turnip crop. It was decided by the A. and P. Association that the area of crops eligible for competition were: Four acres of swedes, five acres of turnips and two acres of chou moellier.

The following are the entries: Swedes: W. H. Summerville (Pine Bush); Robert Scott (Tuatapere); Henry Smith (Waikaka Valley); H. A. Robertson (“Linton Park,” Otautau); J. A. Miller (Awa Moa, Oreti); E. K. Sim (Pukemaori); A. J. Townley (Brydone); J. Campbell (Otautau); T. H. Caughey (Glencoe R.D., Tussock Creek). Turnips: R. J. Eades (Waikiwi). Chou Moellier: R. J. Eades (Waikiwi); J. J. Smith (Waimatuku); J. A. Somerville (Pine Bush, Section 5, Otara R.D.). , , The crops will be judged towards the end of May.
