Squally And Showery
(Special) WELLINGTON, May 19. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Strong squally south-westerly to southerly winds. The weather changeable, with further showers, but gradually improving inland; seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— The weather cold, changeable and showery in most districts, but improving soon in Westland and later in the inland districts of Otago and Canterbury. Snow on the ranges from the Kaikouras northwards. Winds. —Strong south-westerly to southerly soon prevailing; squally at times in most districts. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Moderate inshore north of East Cape; elsewhere rough or rather rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong south-westerly winds and rough seas.
At 1 o’clock this morning the weathei in Invercargill was clear and a cold south-westerly wind was blowing.
