TWO SOUTHLAND MEN AMONG KILLED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 19. Mr George Gilbert, of Ohai, has received advice that his nephew, Gunner John Duncan McMillan,. was. killed in action during the operations in Greece on April 18. Educated at Stockton and at the Granity High School, West Coast, he later took up residence in Ohai, where he was employed at the Linton mine for a number of years. He was a member of the Southland Aero Club, where he gained his pilot s licence, and was a versatile sportsman, being a member of the Army football team. At the outbreak of the war he joined up with the R.N.Z.A.F. at Wigram, but was later transferred to the Army.

SOUTHLAND SOLDIERS SAFE I Lieutenant A. W. Wesney is safe and i well according to advice received by his parents, Mr and Mrs R. H. Wesney, Nelson street. „ , Lieutenant-Colonel J. R. Page has advised his father, Mr J. Page, Invercargill, that he is safe and well. Mr and Mrs E. McLauchlan, Clyde I street, have received word that their | son, Sergeant Keith McLauchlan, has i been safely evacuated from Greece and that he had met in Egypt his three brothers, 2nd Lieutenant P. G. McLauchlan, Private G. McLauchlan and Sapper E. J. McLauchlan and that they were all fit and well. Mr and Mrs T. Pryde, McMaster I street, have received a cable from the Near East stating that their eldest son, Major Neil Pryde, is safe and well. Major Pryde is a former pupil of the Southland Boys’ High School and was employed in the Bank of New Zealand. He was transferred to the North Island 20 years ago. At the time of his enlistment he was accountant at the Te Aroha branch of the bank. Advice has been received by Mrs E. T. Fraser, Waiwera, North Auckland, that her son, Private H. D. Fraser, is safe and well. Before his departure overseas Private Fraser was employed by the Southland Electric Power Supply. Mrs S. J. Kelly has received cabled advice that her husband, Major S. J. Kelly, has arrived in Egypt after being evacuated from Greece.

Mrs F. M. Lang (Otautau) has received advice that her husband, Sergeant F. M. Lang, is safe and well.

Advice has been received that Privates J. and S. Friend, of Grassmere, are safe and well after the evacuation. Cabled advice has been received by Mr and Mrs W. J. Herbert, Edendale, that their son, Driver H. I. Herbert, is safe.

Private William Vincent and Private Verdun Vincent have returned to Egypt from Greece, according to advice received by their mother, Mrs M. Vincent, Newcastle street. Mr and Mrs H. Marchant have received advice by cable that their son, Corporal Cedric Marchant is safe and well. Corporal Marchant is a former pupil of South School and was also a former secretary of the Appleby Cricket Club.

AIR FORCE MEN MISSING

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 19. The following Air Force casualties have been announced:— Sergeant Roderick Barker Taylor, missing and believed killed in an aircraft accident. Mother, Mrs E. Taylor, Auckland. Sergeant John David Campbell Long, missing on air operations. Father, Mr D. M. Long, Auckland. Sergeant John Roland Fry, missing on air operations. Father, Mr R. E. Fry, Auckland. Flight-Lieutenant Neville Williams, D.F.C., missing on air operations. Mother, Mrs A. J. Meyer, Auckland.
