WYNDHAM

HOME GUARD A parade of the Home Guard at Glenham took the form of a brief revision of rifle exercises, and then a night operation across hilly country by three converging sections which had to arrive at a given time. This proved very interesting and showed the necessity of making use of shadows and for absolute quietness on the move. The Wyndham parade was poorly attended, but this was apparently due in part to lack of knowledge that the parade was to be held. Rifle exercises were well revised so that these men, at least should not be required to spend

further time on them. Mr J. Munro gave a talk on the rifle, its parts, variations in types of service rifles, and care of the soldier’s rifle. The ambulance section was at good strength, and was busily occupied. The signallers spent the time in steady revision with the buzzer. The Government has requested the withdrawal of railway and postal employees from the Home Guard for the purpose of attaching them to the Emergency Precautions Scheme. This has greatly weakened the signals section —one of the vital units for field work. It has furthermore left them without qualified instructors.
