ROWING
RAILWAY CLUB’S ANNUAL SOCIAL
An appeal to the older members of the Invercargill Railway Rowing Club to lend the club their full support during the coming seasons now that most of the younger members were on active service was made by the president (Mr S. Adamson) at the club’s annual social on Saturday. There was a large attendance of members, supporters and friends. Of the 36 active members at J he outbreak of the war, 28 had joined the forces, said Mr Adamson, a record of which the club could well be proud. However, it was of the greatest importance that the club should carry on throughout the war against the return of those members serving overseas. He felt confident that the older members and the supporters would stand by the club in the difficult seasons ahead. Mr Adamson presented the Southland Rowing Association’s regatta certificates to the club’s representatives. Trophies won during the season were also presented as follows:—Clapp Double Sculls Trophy, W. Little (s), I. Bulling (b), D. Mailey (cox); S. Mitchell Cup for the youths’ pair at the Bluff regatta, G. Hillstead (s), J. O’Neill (b); club trial four trophies, G. E. Hicks (s), A. J. Goldfinch, D. Boyd, I. Reid (b), K. Murphy (cox).
