NO FREE CIGARETTES FOR WAR PRISONERS
LONDON, May 15. Information having been received that Germany has discontinued the free issue of cigarettes to British prisoners of war, the War Office has in consequence taken parallel action where German prisoners of war are concerned. This does not mean, however, that parcels of tobacco and cigarettes from Britain are not reaching prisoners in Germany. There is much evidence that the parcels are getting through quite regularly. Prisoners are also able to purchase cigarettes in camp canteens, but obviously the quality is by no means the same.
