CIVIC RECEPTION TO MR W. HOLMES

WELLINGTON FUNCTION

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 17. A civic reception was tendered by the Mayor of Wellington, Mx- T. C. A. Hislop, today to Mr William Holmes, past president of the British Trades Union Congress. The acting Prime Minister, the Hon. W. Nash, represented the Government. Other members of the Cabinet present were the Hon. F. Jones, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong and the Hon. J. G. Barclay. Also on the platform were the Speakex- of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Mark Fagan, the national president of the Labour Party, Mx- J. Roberts, and members of the City Council and trade union movement.

Mr Nash asked Mr Holmes to take back from New Zealand a message that whatever could be sent to aid England was hers even without the asking. Mr Holmes was the guest of the New Zealand Federation of Labour at a dinner in Wellington tonight. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, some of his colleagues and executive members of the Wellington Trades Council and the New Zealand Labour Party were also present. Mr Holmes will leave Wellington for the north on Monday.
