FAILURE TO ENROL IN RESERVE
MAN SENT TO PRISON
(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 28.
Charles Eerie Oliver, married, was convicted and discharged and George Steller, single, aged 36, was convicted and sentenced to three days’ imprisonment by the Magistrate, Mr H. W. Woodward, today for failing to enrol in the first division of the General Reserve. Referring to Oliver’s case, the Magistrate said there seemed to be no intention to shirk, but he referred to the heavy penalty for failing to enrol—a £lOOO fine or 12 months’ imprisonment.
Sergeant McKie said that not till he was seen by the police did Steller enrol on March r >. He deliberately evaded his obligations and took no steps whatever.
