PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE The annual meeting of the Woodlands—Longbush Patriotic Committee was held in the hall, Mr J. Hickey presiding over a good attendance. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr J. E. Hickey; vice-president, Mr A. W. G. McKee; secretary, Miss J. Hesselin; treasurer, Mr J. McHardy; executive committee, Mr and Mrs Browning, Mrs N. Hughes and Messrs Grant, Ussher, Simpson, W. Wyeth, A. Trotter, J. O’Meara, J. McHardy, Mesdames McKee and McKenzie, Miss Christie, Messrs McKee and Napper; auditor, Mr Dinnington. AIRMEN HONOURED A large gathering of residents from Woodlands and the surrounding districts recently met in the hall to honour Leading Aircraftman W. M. Jones and Radio Technician H. Piercy. Mr J. Middlemiss presided. The airmen were piped into the hall by Mr S. J. Morrison. The evening took the form of a concert and dance. The opening item was an instrumental duet by the Rev. G. E. Dallard and Mr Allott. The remainder of the concert was in charge of Mr P. Linton Hodge, Invercargill, and members of the R.S.A. party. The chairman asked Mrs W. Bell to present each of the men with a wristlet watch. : She wished them the best of luck, ■ Godspeed and a safe return. Mi' Mid- i dlemiss also presented them with a | knitted outfit from the local women’s I patriotic committee. Other speakers; were: Captain W. Bell, Mr Grant ! (Nightcaps), Mr Hodge and Mr Dal- ; lard. Both airmen replied. For the dancing, music was supplied by Mrs G. Brown, Miss W. Hannan playing an extra. Mr J. Middlemiss was master of ceremonies.
