QUEEN’S PARK BEATS INVERCARGILL
A handsome win was scored by Queen’s Park in the annual golf contest with the Invercargill Club for the Hewat Shield on Saturday afternoon. Playing at the Park the home seniors overwhelmed the Invercargill men, winning 17 of the 26 matches, but at Otatara, where the juniors met, Invercargill scored six wins to the visitors’ four. Of the 39 matches played on the two links, Queen’s Park won 21 and Invercargill 14 and four finished all square. The afternoon was fine with a north-west wind till late in the afternoon, when the wind dropped and light rain ’fell. Play, however, was not interrupted. At the close of the days play at Queen’s Park the shield was handed over to the winners by the president of the Invercargill Golf Club, Mr E. E. Broad, who congratulated them on their win and expressed the hope that they would have many more inter-club contests. The shield was accepted by Mr O. G. Gilmour, the Queens Park president, on behalf of his club. Following are the results of the matches, Invercargill players being mentioned first:— Senior.—A. J. Skjellerup lost to T. J.
