SERVICE TO HOME SCIENCE SCHOOL A distinguished gathering of friends of Professor A. G. Strong, and members of the staff and council of the Otago University and Home Science graduates met on Friday night in the Allen hall to honour Professor Strong on her retirement as Dean of the Home Science Faculty. The hall was beautifully arranged and decorated for the occasion with bowls of massed flowers. The guests were received by Miss S. Bagley, president of the New Zealand Home Science alumnae, who wore a dress in dove grey, threaded with silver, Miss A. Stevenson, president of the Dunedin branch of the Home Science alumnae, who wore burgundy and gold, and Professor Strong, who was gowned in black lace. Dr Elizabeth Gregory, the new Dean, was present, dressed in delphinium blue taffeta. Miss E. S. Macomish, secretary of the New Zealand Home Science alumnae, who wore brown taffeta, was also present.
Professor Strong was presented by Miss Bagley with a brochure containing the signatures of all the graduates in the New Zealand alumnae, and a monetary gift. In making the presentation, Miss Bagley said that Professor Strong had been in charge of the Home Science School for 20 of its 29 years, and had trained her successor. The speaker traversed the advances the school had made during Professor Strong’s term as dean and after reading eulogistic telegrams from the Auckland. Wellington, Christchurch, Invercargill and Napier branches, wished Professor Strong every happiness in her retirement.
