The Minister of Public Works, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, has announced the appointment of Mr W. L. Newnham as engineer-in-chief and under-secre-tary to the department on the retirement of Mr Wood at the end of the month. Mr Newnham joined the Public Service in 1906, and has been assistant engineer-in-chief and deputy-head of the department since last November. —Wellington Press Association. The Hon. T. F. O’Byme, M.L.C. returned to Invercargill by Saturday night’s express after a short visit to Dunedin. Mr Justice Tyndall, president of the Court of Arbitration, accompanied by Mr W. Cecil Prime, employers’ representative, and Mr A. L. Monteith, workers’ representative, have arrived in Christchurch to conduct sittings of the Court. This week the Court will visit the West Coast to heal disputes there. Mr A. W. Jones, chairman of the Invercargill City Council Library Committee, returned to Invercargill by last night’s train from Dunedin after attending the conference of the New Zealand Library Association. Mr L. le F. Ensor, M.A., B.Sc., Dip. Ed., senior science master of the King’s High School, Dunedin, has been appointed to the position of inspector of secondary schools in science and mathematics.
