The engagement is announced between Leading Aircraftman Eric Thomas Boyle, eldest son of Mr E. Boyle, 23 Humber street, Oamaru, and Rita Georgina, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs G. McAughtrie, Kurow.

Mrs E. F. Nicoll, Christchurch, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs W. E. Hazlett, Filleul street. Miss Olive Mclntosh, Riverton, has returned from a holiday in the North Island. While she was in the Bay of Islands she was the guest of Miss Eva Ward, formerly of Riverton. Miss A. C. Neave, Okeover, Christchurch, and Miss Helen Acton-Adams, Marlborough, who have been the guests of Miss Noeline Baker, Stewart Island, go tomorrow to stay with Mrs W. N. Bond, Dunrobin Station. Captain Thomas Hardie Neil, of Auckland, who recently returned to the Dominion as medical officer in charge of 87 New Zealand soldiers invalided home from the Middle East, was married in Auckland on a recent evening to Miss Elma Sidney Hargreaves, Bay of Islands.

Of the 87 testers employed by the Auckland Herd Improvement Association, 16 are women who offered to replace men who had enlisted for overseas service. Reports agree that the

women are doing excellent work. The testers were drawn from the Women’s Emergency Herd Testers’ Reserve. More women will be required, and a course of instruction will be given at Massey College from February 27 to March 15. The marriage took place in Christchurch on Saturday of Miss Lois Blank and Dr Peter Thodey. of Wellington. Dr Thodey' is a son of Mr and Mrs H. Thodey, of Wellington, who formerly lived in Invercargill, where Mr Thodey managed the Bank of Australasia. Miss Blank, too, has many friends in Invercargill, where she has spent a number of holidays. Mr and Mrs Thodey and the bridegroom’s sister, Miss Margaret Thodey, were visitors to Christchurch for the wedding.

WEDDING

RANKIN WYATT At 10 o’clock on Saturday morning the marriage was quietly solemnized in St. John’s Church, of Josephine Isabel, second daughter of Mr and Mrs A. H. J. Wyatt, Duke street, and Leading Aircraftman Noel Bain Rankin, R.N.Z. A.F., only son of Mr and Mrs T. M. Rankin, Yarrow street. The Ven. Archdeacon J. A. Lush performed the ceremony, and Mr Charles Martin was organist. The bride was given away by her father, and was attended by her sister, Miss Helen Wyatt. Mr R. E. Bennetts, Dumbarton (brother-in-law of the bridegroom) was best man. The ’ ride’s larkspur blue frock was worn with navy blue accessories, and the bridesmaid, whose frock was of dull gold sheer, also had navy blue accessories. The reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, where Mrs Wyatt, assisted by Mrs Rankin, received her guests. For travelling the bride wore a dark grey coat and skirt with navy blue accessories.

Mr and Mrs G. Finn and their children were visitors to Winton during the week. Miss M. Hennessey, Riverton, has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Hennessey. Mr and Mrs N. H. McNay are spending a holiday on the West Coast. Miss Joan Waterhouse was a recent visitor to Queenstown. Mrs Dempster, of Auckland, and her small daughter are the guests of Mrs I. E. Wolfe. Mrs A. Fortune has returned from Tuatapere. Miss D. Young was a visitor to Invercargill recently. Mr and Mrs A. C. Macdonald were recent visitors to Invercargill. Miss F. Watson paid a brief visit to Invercargill during the week. Miss Cook, who is in Southland on furlough from China, was the guest of the Rev. Martin and Mrs Martin during a visit to Orepuki. Mrs O’Donnell and Miss M. O’Donnell were recent visitors to Invercargill. Mrs J. Morris, Riverton, spent a few days with her mother in Orepuki during the week. Mr and Mrs Wright, Auckland, have been staying with Mrs S. Wolfe. Mrs E. Houlihan, Niagara, is the guest of her mother, Mrs M. Morris. Miss M. Daly was a visitor to Riverton during the week.
