MAGISTRATE’S COURT (Before Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M.) Erie Robinson, a contractor, of Mataura, was proceeded against by the Transport Department (Mr P. Laughton) on a charge of having operated a Diesel-engined tractor along the road without registration numbers and with iron-shod wheels. The defendant, who did not appear, was fined 5/-. costs 10/-, on the first charge and £3, costs 10/-. on the second charge. John Robert Gibson, of Brydono, appeared on a charge of operating a truck without being the holder of a heavy traffic licence. The defendant entered a plea of guilty, but explained that he had sent a cheque to the Southland County Council and had not received his licence back when charged.
