TEMPORARY SCHOOL ACCOMMODATION
TWO HALLS TO BE USED AT OHAI It is expected that the Ohai School, which has been closed since the present building was abandoned on Thursday because of the serious subsidence of the ground, will be resumed in temporary quarters next Monday. The secretary of the Southland Education Board (Mr H. T. Thompson) stated yesterday that negotiations were in progress for the taking over of two Ohai halls for schcci purposes, and he believed that the arrangements would be completed successfully in time to allow the school to reopen. The school is a wooden building in good condition, but it is considered that it will not be practicable to remove it bodily from its present site to a new site, which will be chosen as soon as possible, because it has been subjected to severe strain through the subsidence of old mine workings below. An inspection made on Thursday showed that the building had moved downward by about eight inches at one end in the last fortnight.
