MANDEVILLE
BULLDOZER DOES GOOD WORK Tire Public Works Department machines previously engaged in the straightening of the Waimea strearp and the making of the approaches to the new concrete bridge are now made available to the farming community. Last Monday the first local job, the making of a new channel for the Otamete stream was undertaken. The bulldozer began a five chains and a-half cut at 8.30 a.m. and by 2.30 p.m. the stream was rushing down the new channel. The bulldozer is now engaged in putting up a six feet high flood bank for - Messrs Miller Bros., which is to be followed by a similar embankment for Mr Sydney Horrell. PATRIOTIC WORK Like other centres, Mandeville is taking part in the various war assistance efforts. Members of the Women’s Institute have been working enthusiastically. Much good work is being done and the number of soldiers’ parcels already sent in speaks volumes for the industry of the members. The Young People’s ball was a success. Tire whole of the admission money was given to the Sick and Wounded Fund. SICKNESS AMONG CHILDREN A period of sickness among pupils has considerably affected the attendance at tire school for the past six weeks.
