SOCIAL SECURITY TAX

REDUCTION BY ONE-THIRD SUGGESTED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 16. A suggestion that the Social Security tax should be reduced by one third until the full medical benefits proposed could be supplied was made in the House of Representatives today by Mr H. S. S. Kyle (Nat., Riccarton). The medical benefits could not be given at the present time because there were not sufficient medical men available, Mr Kyle said. He believed that about 25 or 30 per cent, of the doctors were required for military duties and probably more would be required in the future. In the circumstances why did the Government not relax the tax by 4d? Mr Kyle expressed the nope that the Minister of Health (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) would give the reasons why the tax could not be reduced when he entered the Budget debate
