PLEASURE IN WAR TIME

To The Editor Sir, —In reply to “Patriot” and “ExSoldier” on the subject of dances, I think their remarks as printed in Monday’s issue are rather slashing. I would like to point out that nine of the 25 dances are in aid of patriotic funds, three are in aid of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, whose activities are an essential part of country life, and one is in aid of church funds.

I would also point out that the advertisements cover four weeks, . an average of one a day. Can either “Patriot” or “Ex-Soldier” suggest any other way of raising the necessary funds? If either correspondent can, let us have his ideas.

I am working on a farm and would be quite willing to spend some of my evenings in any way which will help the national effort. Any suggestions offering?—Yours, etc., PATRIOTIC. June 25, 1940.
