ANNUAL BALL AT CLIFDEN
YOUNG PEOPLE ENTERTAIN The young people of Clifden held their annual ball on a recent evening. The hall was decorated with the Union Jack, red, white and blue streamers and balloons. Mr J. O’Brien was master of ceremonies. Extras were played by Mr R. Menpes. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Miss Eileen O’Brien and Mr D. Mackrell, and by Mrs R. Laurie and Mr T. Rohan.
The opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs G. J. King and their family who are leaving the district to live in Martinborough, where Mr King has accepted a position on the staff of the High School. The chairman of the school committee, Mr J. Lawrence, spoke of the esteem in which Mr and Mrs King were held by the people of Clifden and Mr King’s success as head master of the Clifden School during the past four years. He asked Mr and Mrs King to accept the gift of a dinner set from their friends \in the district.
On behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, of which Mrs King has been a member for the four years she has lived there, the president, Mrs Watson, asked Mrs King to accept a fountain pen from her fellow members.
Mr B. Lawson also spoke of the interest which Mr King had taken in the Basketball Clubs and Tennis Clubs of which he had been a member and delegate. Mr King replied.
